Have you tried plugging it into a monitor and checking that everything is fine with the raspberry pi? My Raspiboy had a bad connection over the pogo pins at first but it didn't act in the way your describing.

Extra Screen Pad? (1.2)
Received my 1.2 just a few days ago. Opened it up and noticed that there was an adhesive foam pad on both the left and right hand side of the screen. The assembly video only has a pad on the left hand (battery side) of the screen so I am leaning towards removing the "extra" one. I am hopin...
