God that Dpad

I am a console collector, so I own and tried the controllers of almost every major console out there, from a 3DO to a Virtual Boy and a Neo Geo CD. I'm sorry to say that the Dpad you've chosen for this device is probably one of the worst if not the worst I've ever used. It's extremely mushy, and wit...

Re: Emulator tutorial..?

Good to know man. I would still love to see some roms that aren't compatible with 0.78 (World Rally is mah jam) but the later MAME versions are probably too heavy for this device (even though I used to have them on my puny Xperia Play 5 years ago with no issues, which if I'm not mistaken has less po...

Re: Dreamcast emulation. Stuck on bios

Thanks for the reply man. It kinda worked, but needs a bit of tinkering. The first issue was that the .cfg you mentioned wasn't even there, so I had to create it from scratch. From there though I still had a bit of an issue. Dpad and the buttons seemed to work in the bios, but in game (tried Virtua ...

Upgrade possibilities.

So I got the device two days ago and after a bit of tinkering, almost everything works amazingly (I still can't map Dreamcast and Amiga controls but they do work fine). Still I feel that some of the components could really use an upgrade. I get that even with the successful Kickstarter campaign it w...

Re: Emulator tutorial..?

The device uses a older version of MAME that required specific rom versions to work. You will need to find MAME 0.78 roms (you can find them relatively easy online without even delving into any dangerous territories) and you need to put them into a MAME 2003 folder. After doing that everything will ...

Re: Poor battery performance?

Well, I kinda mention it in a different post, but it's a bit weird how the device handles low battery. The 2nd led light lights up when it's about to shut down because of the low charge, but way before that Retrostone starts to act up in various ways. The most obvious for me is that the screen start...

Re: Dreamcast emulation. Stuck on bios

I tried to do that through the retropie setup and that's where an error screen pops up telling me more or less that I had no rights to open the joyconfig (or something like that). I will try doing it again after I reflash the OS again, now that I now how every emulator works I will do everything fro...

Re: RetroStone not booting/crashing/freezing - Hardware issue - Please post here.

First part of my problem (with the multiple flashes) I am not sure what was the problem. I suspect the SD card reader on my laptop because even though every step was completed without any issues it only worked when I used an external USB card reader. So maybe it was a problem on my end. The instabil...

Dreamcast emulation. Stuck on bios

Slowly but surely I really got the hang of the device. Especially after fixing the assembly mistake with the d-pad everything is almost perfect (the buttons are a bit too loud for my tastes but this is just nitpicking). Anyway, I got almost every emulator running with no issues, from MAME to SNES bu...

Re: RetroStone not booting/crashing/freezing - Hardware issue - Please post here.

After a bit of experimenting with the device, I got it working just fine. Added tons of games, most of them played great. The problem is that something gets corrupted out of nowhere. Not sure what, but the music stops playing, and emulators don't load the games. An entire page of errors appear for a...
