What I noticed, is plugging in the RaspiBoy to power, the third light comes on, and the 4th light actually blinks veeeery slooowly. On, then off. I haven't watched for any rhyme or reason (I think it actually slows down even more as the battery level increases) - so sometimes I looked, and it seeme...

This process can be seen on the LEDs, when LED 3 ON and LED 4 OFF, it's charging. When LED3 ON and LED4 ON it means it's cooling down. So if your 5V charger voltage is bit high then there's more heat to dissipate so cooling time is longer. So, this is why, in charge, the LED 4 is blinking with a pe...

How work the LED status on board version 1.2 ?
With a battery fully discharged, when I plug the charger, the LED 3 and 4 are ON.
LED 4 is not supposed to be a fully charged battery ?

Because the screen is connected on the composite video out.
Here some comparaison between composite and rgb out
If you connect your raspiboy on the tv via hdmi, the picture must be fine.
