You don't need internet connection to test. But you need a keyboard to go to console and type the command line.
You can stack them together if you'r gentle it's ok, I usually use insulated metallic wire that I put through both PCB holes to tight the PCB together.

Re: Spare PCB, Questions..
Do you have v1.1 or v1.2 or the PCB? If it's 1.2 you have the "lightning bolt" button that is already a GPIO button. About GPIO you can use any but the 2 that are connected to sound (18 and 13). Spare PCB can be purchased on the component section of the website : https://www.8bcraft.com/pr...

Re: Lightning button on the rear...?
About this issue I am not sure what can be the problem. It could be the button itself or the associated pogo pin but it would not be my first guess. Are you sure everything is correct in your attempts? There could be quite a lot of software reasons for it not working. When you run the python install...

Re: White Screen, Never Used
If the LCD is completely white (not blue and white) it's probably a problem with LCD ribbon connector. Or the ribbon being teared.
If it's white/blue then you can check there : https://www.8bcraft.com/trouble-shooting-faq/

Re: Boot Errors
It could be that there is a problem while writing the SD card. Maybe some linux partition are left from previous writing? You can check here to format completely all partitions of a SD card :

Re: D-Pad Down Direction
Please check that the L/R wires are not stuck under the circular shapes that hold down the PCB when casing is closed. This could make extra-pressure.
The casing should be able to close completely without problem.

Re: Charging is too slow?
Charge should not take more than ~10-12 hours even with large battery and regular 5V charger. With 4.5V charger it should be lower, about 5-6 hours. There might be a problem with your battery or the PCB. I think we should try replacing them.
