Disk part does nothing, this is nothing to do with it so dont waste your time. Any card formatted and flashed that boots ONCE, is correctly flashed.

The problem is with the hardware or the image ( i doubt if is the image or it wouldn't boot at all ) , if i had to hazard a guess id say the hardware is fooked, and the schematics hasn't been looked into enough.

This needs to be sorted out, i dont mind flicking and soldering resistors as long as that is the ROOT OF THE PROBLEM.......ive had many many handhelds, consoles before and tinkered and messed with them but this thing is on another level of frustration.

1-yes
2-yes
3-yes
4-yes
5-no
6-ApplePi Baker (same as I use for my raspberry pis)
7-yes
8-no, fully charged
9-yes
10-I have tried all of them. they all yield same unstable results. including both supreme versions
11-only when it freezes in boot up process, which is 90% of time
12-yes
13-Have tried 3. stock SD, SanDisk extreme, and samsung evo select. none work better than others.
13b-no
14-tried this, does not seem to make any kind of noticable difference.
15-when it boots successfully it works great. i get kicked back to EmuStation only for some games. (i believe it is the rom.) I only get blue lines when it reboots, and sometimes it reboots successfully, but most times it does not make it back to EmuStation. I have conservatively a 20-25% successful boot. On average it takes me >5 tries to be successful. sometimes over 10.
16-I was not original backer but Order #2964 (19 May 2018).

Hi
I have tried all the stuff below disk part latest image different cards etc etc.and still appear to be having hardware freezes and and black screen etc. Issues
Additionally when i shut down the unit through the menu on the rare occasion it boots properly and i turn it off at the switch i get random high pitch noises coming through the speaker ... these ramp up and down randomly and are loud wnough to wake me up this can last minutes or hours and then start again. Plugging in headphones has no effect on the sound coming through the speaker! As i cannot remove the battery i have to put the unit in another room! I have not done the speaker or sd resistor mod. The unit is fully charged with a 2.5ampp power supply but unplugged with nothing plugged in and the power light is not illuminated.
Please help this must be a hardware fault ... I have had enough!!!!

@justinbailey just contacted you

@Stepp diskpart can help in some situation. I had lot of time where Raspiboys or RetroStone were giving strange boot problems and it using diskpart to remove any partition often did the trick. However it does not mean that it will solve all issues of course. If the unit is having boot loop, freezes, black screen very often then it's indeed a hw problem. It's not the schematic but the traces impedance that has not been controlled correctly unfortunately. So some units are not working correctly.
You already sent it back correct? We discussed by email earlier about it I guess?

@Beads contacted you to you rorder email
@Wasby contacted you to your forum email address as you gave no order/backer number
@jas25 contacted you to your kickstarter email

Hi
I had the slim plus OS installed on my retrostone, then I downloaded the new supreme, I formatted my card and flashed the OS on the card, then when it goes to boot up, the retrostone sign comes on my device, then just black screen.
How do I get it working? I have seen something about soldering! this I can't do and wouldn't anyway because I would most probably ruin the device.
Any ideas???

Hi,
With Slim plus OS was it working correctly? If so I would suggest going back to it.
The R23 resistor fix will not solve your problem, as you have the retrostone sign coming up.
Are you using supreme v1 or v1.1 ? Have you tried to redownload clean SD and reflash?

Example of reply :
1- Yes
2- Yes
3- Yes
4- yes
5- nothing connected
6- Etcher and win32diskimager both.
7- Yes multiple times
8- Battery is full
9- Yes 5V 2A
10- Retrorangepi RetroStone Full version and Slim version both don't work. All other H3's on retroorange download page
11- Never get this far
12- Yes, it did not help
13- Tested another SD and no luck either. Same behavior with both.
14- This beta image does not help there this bug or that bug ...
15- I tried to flash multiple times, cleaning each time with Diskpart, tried different images, different SD, always the same behavior : booting only 1 time every 10 times, often endless lines of text, boot loop, crashing. Ultimately when I get to emulation station it crashes after few seconds.
16- Website order : Transaction ID
18X83253R41576104

Invoice ID
8BC-3964
17 - email available in my order details on paypal.

Thank you. I had high hopes for this product I expect the hardware is faulty at this point. Please advise next steps.

Thank you.

RetroStone Crashing

Hi!

I recently received my own retrostone, for which i was really excited. Unfortunatly, dream turned into nightmare when i started to configure the device....

So i got the image to put on the sd card from the OrangePi webstite. The version of the image i used is RetroRangePi 4.2 Full Armbian, Debian Jessie. I also tried with an image of SupremeRetrostone. The SD card was prepared with Win32 Diskimager and was formatted beforeEnd with diskpart.

The sd card used first was the one provided with the console, but i also tried with a branded class 10 16 Go sd card later on as it wasn't helping at all.

The problem is that, when i launch the device, sometimes i am lucky enough to get to the main menu, choose a game and start playing for maybe 5 minutes if i am lucky, 30 sec on average and not at all for the worst case, then the screen shuts down, the music stops playing, i see the third led on the left still on. Then nothing else, i can just shutdown the device and start it again.

In the really worst case scenario, i boot the device and it cannot even pass the Retropie Logo with the PS1 music. same symptoms as explained above... It is really annoying for the prize of the device + shipping taxes. i was really expecting a device working fine, especially when all the reviewers give a thumb up for this thing.

I will precise that i used a phone charger for this, 5v and 2 amps. I tried let it charge overnight and then tried to use it but still same issue...
The problem also occures when on desktop mode, i tried to get the logs of the system, thinking i could find somethnig interresting to help but the pi user account does not have privileges to do so...

Could you please tell me what i am missing on the configuration maybe, or is it something i need to get the device back to Hong Kong ??

Any help would be appreciated :)
Thanks in advance.
