Screen protector to peel off?

Retrostone arrived and having lots of fun with it.
Quick question, does the screen have some sort of protector on it?
I have a red line across the LCD, but it's hard to tell if it's from a protector or a fault.
Also there is a very small piece of tape on the bottom left hand side of the screen that i daren't peel off. Should I?
