FAQ - Question Fréquntes

Post by FranckKnight »

Here we will try to make a repositery of some RetroPie related questions that seem to creep up often, once we find an answer. This isn't tech support for RaspiBoy, but meant to help those that are a bit less knowledgeable about RetroPie and EmulationStation. If you got questions, write them down in this thread, and it will be added to the top post if an answer can be found.

E-Q1. How do I add Themes without Network access?

E-A1. With a USB Drive, transfer the Theme's folder on it (put it into another folder if you want). Plug it into the Raspberry Pie. Then in the EmulationStation config menus, use the 'File Manager' program to transfer the folder from the USB Drive to /home/pi/.emulationstation/themes. You may need to restart EmulationStation afterwards, but it should appear in your Themes list (press Start to access the Themes menu).

E-Q1. How do I add games without Network?

E-A1. Take any USB drive plugged on your computer, and make a single folder named "retropie" on it. Leave it empty. Plug the USB drive into the Raspberry Pie and let it work for a few seconds. Then plug it back into the computer, the "retroepie" folder will have several subfolders made into it, split by console. Simply copy your ROMs into the proper folder for the console/emulator, then plug the USB drive into the Raspberry Pie again. It will transfer the ROMs unto the SD Card, taking several minutes. Then you can remove them from the USB Drive afterwards.

Note that there are methods to run the games from the USB Drive as well, but it is possible to keep different USB Drives with different collections of games. They won't be playable unless the correct USB Drive is plugged in, but they can still be listed under the EmulationStation if configured correctly.
