Boot Errors

Post by Tavisk »

Hello!

When I write my SD card with the retropi software, then assemble the hard ware, I get errors during boot. Two of them I have noticed are listed below.

t Kernel Panic: VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (179,2)
&
Random: nonblocking pool is initialized

has anyone else seen these errors?

* things I have tried.
-reinstalling/rewriting on 3 different SD cards. (on high speed)
-when I tried to reinstall version 4.0 on my RP 2 i use aside from this kit, I get the errors on it now as well.

Thank you for any information!

Hi !

You probably use a bad quality and/or broken µSD card. Try to use a SAMSUNG or SANDISK one.

Make also sure you write the retropie img rightly.

First you have to completly format your µSD card, try this tool.

Secondly, write your retropie img with this one

Thank you for the help, But unfortunately I am still getting the errors. I have 3 different SD cards I have tried, and a few different software systems to format and write with. All giving me the same result. Also, everything online tells me I have a bad SD card. I guess I will try a fourth Card tomorrow. I have not tried the samsung ones yet. Ill give it a try.

It could be that there is a problem while writing the SD card. Maybe some linux partition are left from previous writing? You can check here to format completely all partitions of a SD card :

Hi together,

I got the same problem.
It helps to kill the SD Card complete and restart the installation.
After that, it should work as before.

I did it with this tutorial on Youtube.
It´s in german but I think, it will help also people who don´t speak german.
