Background noise speaker

I have a question. My RS2 makes a lot of noise. It’s buzzing.
I think it’s the sound that the board makes but it gets amplified by the speaker. Can i fix this by putting something behind the speaker so that it blocks the sound from the board?

Greetings,
Marco

Hi Marco,
We are aware about this issue. This is not related to hardware. There is issue in beta version of retropie. Team is working on it and will be fixed on next update.
Thanks,
Sakib

Hi Marco,
After reading again your message it may sounds like a hardware thing.
Can you please make a small video where we can hear the buzzing sound? In order to see how loud that is.
Yes it's probably the speaker touching the PCB so adding insulating tape will most likely solve it.
It may also be speaker catching interferences, adding electroshielding could help if so. Using a shielding layer like aluminium foil, but make sure to insulate the foil with tape.

Best is to check your video to make sure first. It might also be the speaker that is faulty in which case we'll need to replace it.

Ok, thank you. When i’m home i will make a small video of it.

Edit: here is a small video https://www.dropbox.com/s/70ql6exr97cfn ... e.mp4?dl=0
Very difficult to capture. I'm gonna try to insert some tape. The buzz changes when somethings happening so i think it's the board.

I did an easy fix by placing a filter on top! :-) Now i don't have to open up the RS2.
Works great!

Retrostone 2 (Clear blue) - Atrocious Sound Quality

I have exactly the same issue as Fenny
here : http://orangepi.club/showthread.php?tid=3377
Hello there,

Just recently received my Retrostone 2 and applied the 4.3 Full image http://www.retrorangepi.org/download/ a few days ago. While the performance seems pretty much OK and consistent at 60 FPS in most tested SNES and GBA games I noticed that the sound out of the speakers in many games is of a very distorted quality, as if resonance or overmodulation is killing certain frequencies.

In the main menu after bootup idle I also notice that the speaker emits audible white / static noise and emits a slight high-pitched coil noise that seems to change based on whatever the screen is showing.

I read in another thread that sound problems are going to be fixed with the next update, however this feels as if it is an electrostatic / shielding type of problem. Is there any way to mod or improve this? Do others experience similar results on their units?

Thanks in advance for any shared experience or helpful input!

J'ai exactement le même pb que Fenny ici :
http://orangepi.club/showthread.php?tid=3377

Same issue here. I run the 4.3 image from http://orangepi.club/showthread.php?tid=331 using the same clear-blue Retropie 2 that just arrived a few days ago.

I noticed that the sound out of the speakers in many games is of a very distorted quality, as if resonance or overmodulation is killing certain frequencies or the speaker is being pushed over its limits.

In the main menu after bootup idle I also notice that the speaker emits audible white / static noise and emits a slight high-pitched coil noise that seems to change based on whatever the screen is showing.

Any pointer on how to resolve this issue would be appreciated. I can also make a recording with some good microphone if need be.

Hello,

having the same issue, sound and static is almost permanently audible from the speaker, seems to amplify coil sounds from the PCB of sorts. Has anyone ever opened the Retrostone 2 and tried to resolve the issue there with some shielding / tape?

Looks like a pretty obvious design flaw to me, not really a software issue... :?

I'll try to get some footage of it with better recording of the issue.

I recorded the issue with a decent audio recorder:

Menu static noises are audible at 1:20 (I upped the volume of my recorder to make it more audible).
