The new Pi Zero is out!
Same specs, but with onboard WIFI and Bluetooth chip!
Was wondering is this is going to be compatible with Raspiboy hat.
Can someone give us some info about this?
Pi Zero W, wireless and bluetooth connection onboard!
Re: Pi Zero W, wireless and bluetooth connection onboard!
I checked, the test pads did not moved so it should be compatible.
There should be no reasons it is not compatible
I ordered one to test confirm!

Re: Pi Zero W, wireless and bluetooth connection onboard!
I'm debating whether to get one or not. I already bought a Pi Zero (1.3 standard) for my Raspiboy, and figured I could add bluetooth via a USB nub (wanting to use bluetooth for additional controller instead of standard USB). So I am now debating whether I want an IOGear Bluetooth nub in one of the USB ports or to just order a Pi Zero W and having an extra Pi Zero around the house.
Re: Pi Zero W, wireless and bluetooth connection onboard!
So was this ever tested? Really tempted to order one before my RaspiBoy comes in. Of course than I'll have to figure out what to do with the other Pi 0 I bought for this project....maybe build it into an Altoids tin?
Re: Pi Zero W, wireless and bluetooth connection onboard!
Although it can communicate with ZeroW alone, it was hardly possible to communicate with RaspiBoy when it was installed.
So disable built-in WLAN and use USB WLAN.
Since Bluetooth does not have compatible equipment, it has not been tested yet.

You mean the the case or display, 8b craft board and stuff blocks the wifi of the pi0w?Although it can communicate with ZeroW alone, it was hardly possible to communicate with RaspiBoy when it was installed.

I also ordered a w since the pi0 without wlan was sold out. But I guess the wlan is not that useful here, at least for the raspi boy, or is it?
Re: Pi Zero W, wireless and bluetooth connection onboard!
Does anyone have new experiences using the "Pi Zero W"? Id like to buy one if it works identical with the Raspiboy.

Re: Pi Zero W, wireless and bluetooth connection onboard!
I had both a Pi Zero and a Pi Zero W
I started with the Zero and then went with the W.
The W ran a little bit hotter and reduced the battery life a bit. It was kinda nice however to be able to connect to it when I needed to for updates. However, if you buy a cheap USB to Ethernet dongle you can fix this but you have to carry it around.
I stuck with the W because it's convenient to do a quick SSH into the RaspiBoy. I do leave the Wifi Disconnected and wrote a script to disable and Enable Wifi when needed. I use the Ethernet Dongle for large transfers

Care to share your disable/enable script?echoshard1 wrote: I do leave the Wifi Disconnected and wrote a script to disable and Enable Wifi when needed. I use the Ethernet Dongle for large transfers
Also, does disabling the WiFi and Bluetooth help with battery life and heat?
