Outside of 8b and 16b emulation on PC, I am a layman when it comes to anything "pi"
I kickstarted retrostone and am looking for the proverbial "Retrostone for Dummies" guide. Formatting the SD for Fat32 on up.
From what I understand 'Retrorangepi' as the OS is the same as retropi just optimized for the Retrostone's board so am I to assume that a 'Retropi tutorial video'

Yes you are right it's very similar, just download the retrorangepi retrostone "Slim Plus" version instead of retropie. http://retrorangepi.download/download/
- The flashing step is the same.
- On first boot on retrorangepi the system will install and reboot, which will take about 3 minutes.
- Gamepad should already be configured. (If the gamepad is not recognized just wait about 1min and it should get detected)
- You don't need to do the update step
- You don't need to install retropie manager
