Problems with saving the state in a game

Post by juliahna12 »

Hello to all retro players and Pierre!

I have my Retrostone some days now and i find it extremely satisfying as i can play all the games of childhood with ease!

One problem though, sometimes when i'm in a game it doesn't save my progress. I don't know if that happens at random but I've encountered this problem with some SNES and PSOne games.

The game seems to save just fine, but when i'm closing the Retrostone (reseting to starting screen, then quitting the software, then turning the switch off) and open it again in a day or two my save is not there.

Any help will be welcomed! Best regards.

It happened to me a couple of times with the n64 but at the time I was messing around with the config.
For the PS1 I had the same problem but then everything was fixed when I added the correct bios files.
For SNES though it's a bit weird as it should work right out of the box.

I also confirm that I've seen this. In fact, it seems that it wasn't taking my actual save for the game I was in either (Dragon Quest 3 SNES in this case). So neither the last save nor the last save state were there when I reloaded the game a little later. Which is odd. I wonder if there's a delay or something when shutting down the game and returning to ES before the files actually get dumped to the SD Card.

Hmmmm strange. I think I’ve encountered the problem with both the slim and full edition. The delayed response of the SD cards maybe is the reason, we must try some more games and gather info.

I would advise always making use of save states if you're having trouble with in-game saves. Select+R to "reserve", select+L to "load".

Hi,

I had the same problem and read in a retropie post that there is a problem with acces restrictions to the file system.

There was a option in the menue where you could reset the possession of the file directories.

Wait a min. I will have a look at the option.

Edit:

The post was:

try Reset ownership/permissions of /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ via
(I believe) retropie-setup > configuration/tools

Source: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/118 ... -working/8

For me this worked and I was able to save again in my games on my retrostone.

Otherwise double save via save state with select + R
